Hello hello!

You guys, I have a special treat for you this evening. Once a month I will post an interview with a Makeup Artist!!! Our very first Makeup Artist feature is with the lovely Melissa Evans, a Nashville Freelance Makeup Artist. I had the pleasure of working with her during my time in Nashville. Melissa is extremely knowledgeable in many different makeup lines and has been in the industry for twenty three years. Currently, she is working as a freelance artist for Estee Lauder. Without further ado:

Me: “What made you want to be in the beauty industry?”

Mel: “I started after college. I wasn’t allowed to wear make up until High school. Started with Clinique cosmetics. I was a natural and people wanted me to do their makeup. Back then there was no You Tube or Internet. I learned by watching people. When I got a job as a makeup artist with Laura Mercier that is when I felt I was working with the best artists and people.”

Me: “What is a typical day like for you as an MUA?”

Mel: “A typical day is getting to know people’s wants and needs, skin types and what they are using. Love new products and always trying new lines and seeing what’s out there. I love meeting new people. Love working on people and enhancing their beauty.”

Me: “Name a celebrity you would love to do makeup on.”

Mel: “I would love to do makeup on Britney Spears.”

(I mean, don’t we all!)

Me: “What would you say to someone who aspires to be a makeup artist?”

Mel: “Do what you love. Read and watch You Tube videos. Get a job at Ulta or Sephora. Have fun and just practice.”

Me: “Did you have to go to school to do what you do?”

Mel: “I didn’t go to school. I took classes to learn new tricks.”

Me: “What is your favorite cosmetic line at the moment?”

Mel: “Two Faced and Tarte.”

Me: “Is being an MUA really a glamorous job and why/why not?”

Mel: “It is a lot of work. Physically and mentally. Dealing with lots of personalities and egos. But I go with flow. I love makeup and I would not change anything.”

Me: “How often do you research beauty brands? Is it important to be in the know of new lines coming out and why?”

Mel: “I am always looking at social media. Playing at Ulta and Sephora. Looking online and seeing what’s new and exciting. Buying the most popular product or trying something new. Love all different lines.”

Me: “What facial feature would you say is your best feature?”

Mel: “Eyes and Lips.”

(You guys, she has amazing eyes and lips!!!!! *Envy*)

Me: “What is your go to product when working with a client?”

Mel: “Double Wear foundation by Estee Lauder.”

Here is some of her work.
