We all go through a career rut when we don’t feel an ounce of motivation in the morning to get out of bed and go to work every morning. Trust me, everyone has felt this in their lifetime, because, well, we are all only human. Also, sometimes it just gets old hustling for someone else’s dreams day after day. So, here’s What To Do When You’re Not Motivated At Your Job so you don’t go insane.
Create a daily routine
I know, I know. Isn’t a daily routine what makes you sick of doing the same thing everyday like going to work? Well, when you don’t feel prepared each day for your daily duties because you don’t plan ahead or you feel like your life is all over the place, you get burnt out and create a lack of motivation.
Creating a positive daily routine and following through with it can boost your motivation. It gives you a sense of accomplishment and eagerness. Also, humans are creatures of habit, so why wouldn’t you have a daily routine? This can be fun, too! Get out your notebook and write down daily habits you want to get into that boosts your mood and inspires you. I have shared an example with you down below of my daily routines.
Use That PTO, Girl!
This sounds counter intuitive since we are trying to get you motivated for work, but, it’s important to take a break when you need it. If you are lacking motivation, you need to recharge your mindset and you’re not going to achieve that when you are running your brain into the ground when you’re on that daily grind, right? So, put that request in for a couple days off. Take a quick road trip or plan a brief stay-cation to get your life together and recharge your soul. Here are some great stay-cation ideas to help boost your motivation.
Practice Your Craft
One of my favorite ways to regain motivation at work is to focus on a portion of your job and get really good at it! Sometimes we lose inspiration at our day-to-day jobs because we are stuck in the mundane routine of our daily tasks. Sometimes we lack confidence in our required skills and forget to work on them. So, practice your craft. Become the best at your job. Work hard to impress your boss and peers. This gives us a sense of success, which we need to thrive in our industries. Plus, who doesn’t like feeling like a total girl boss?
Start Drinking Coffee
This sounds silly right? Well, I don’t know about you, but I always feel motivated once I have my latte in hand. I just feel as if I can conquer the freaking world! Plus, who doesn’t need a caffeine jolt?! Make it fun by trying something different each day. You can even make your own latte at home without an espresso machine, like this one.
Get A New Gig
When all else fails? Maybe it’s time to look for a new job. Sometimes we are at one job for too long and we become complacent and burnt out. But, get your ducks in a row before you hand your boss your two weeks’ notice. Start by doing some job hunting on sites like Monster.com or Indeed.com. Plan your interview outfit, spice up your resume, and get your Girl Boss attitude on!
You don’t have to feel guilty when you wake up and want to hit snooze on your alarm and play hooky. It’s just time to gain back the motivation you’re missing. Don’t worry, girl. You got this!!!
